WHO Made the First Dumpling? Sure, wasn’t me.
Looking at the origin of dumplings, most food experts and professionals believe that this food was invented in China. It is said that a great physician, Zhang, came up with an idea by combining herbs, mutton, and chilis then wrapped them with dough and after that, he steamed them together to make it warm.
This steaming method helped people to get through the cold weather and the herbs food he gave them to improve their blood circulation and protect them from getting frostbite.
This Jamaican fried dumplings (also known as Johnny cakes) recipe, is unlike any other fried dumplings recipe.

The Jamaican Fried Dumplings Recipe usually consist of 4 key ingredients; Flour, Salt, Baking Powder and Water
When it comes to salt, I use Pink Himalayan Salt. The health benefits outweighs other salts due to its purity. Some of Pink Himalayan Salt's commonly promoted health claims include that it can: Improve respiratory diseases, balance your body's pH, reduce signs of aging, improve sleep quality, regulate blood sugar and increase libidio.
It is important to add all dry ingredients into a bowl before making the dough. Mixing all the dry ingredient will allow the baking powder and salt to be evenly distributed throughout the flour.
Using a sieve to get rid of lump is okay but using your hands for kneading is even better. No matter how much I knead, my dough rarely comes out smooth, but my dumplings are always soft.
You can let the dough sit after kneading to allow the baking powder to active. This will create a softer Jamaican Fried Dumpling.
If the dough is sticky, dust with a little flour.
Fry the dough immediately after kneading is okay, just fry at a lower heat.
